How Stylewriter Software Works

StyleWriter Software works by checking the documents already open on your Windows desktop.  To check a document in a disk file, you must first open the file with your word processor.

Some Windows word processors make their documents available to other applications using Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) as Server Applications.  DDE allows these word processors to accept commands from Client Applications such as StyleWriter.  Ami Pro, Microsoft Word and WordPerfect (version 6.0 onwards) all support DDE as servers.  For more information on how StyleWriter works with these word processors, see:

Some word processors support DDE only as clients.  These can receive data from server applications but will not share their own documents with others.  WordPerfect 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows support DDE as clients only.  For more details see:

Some word processors do not support DDE at all.  However, all Windows word processors and text editors can copy text to the Windows clipboard, making it available to all other Windows applications.  Microsoft Windows Write and Microsoft Windows Notepad are typical applications that do not support DDE but use the Windows clipboard.  For more details see:
